The CKD rule of 10: 10% of adults have CKD and 10% are aware of the diagnosis, can you help us fix that?

In Australia, it is estimated that approximately 1.7 million people aged >18 years have indicators of Chronic Kidney Disease. CKD if often overlooked and fewer than 10% of people are aware they have the condition. 1 in 3 Australian adults have risk factors for CKD. Other co-morbidities such as T2D, hypertension, established CV disease contribute to this increased risk.

This session highlights the importance of early screening, diagnosis and treatment of CKD with the goal of slowing the progression of this disease.

Clinical A/Prof Kilov (University of Melbourne and University of Sydney) is a founding member of both the RACGP diabetes specific interest group and the Primary Care Diabetes Society of Australia. He is a contributor to the RACGP management of type 2 diabetes handbook, and a member of several NDSS Expert Reference Groups. He is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education both within Australia and internationally and is widely published in peer reviewed journals.

Dr, Nephrologist

Dr Phoon is Senior Staff Specialist in Nephrology at Westmead Hospital, Chair of the KHA-CARI Guideline for the Management of CKD among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Māori, longstanding PEAK Committee member (KHA), Elected Councillor for HCF, and Treasurer/Secretary of Ballet Without Borders. He is currently principal investigator on several international trials related to CKD, glomerulonephritis and lupus.

Dr Lim is a General Practitioner and GP Principal in a small group practice in Mt Druitt. He is the immediate past President of AMA (NSW), a Wentwest Clinical Council member and President of the Mt Druitt Medical Practitioners Association. He currently serves on several advisory groups including the QIPIP Data Governance Group and ADHA mHealth Working Group. He has been heavily engaged in the Western Sydney PCMH implementation project, and as a member of the Wentwest Clinical leaders group, and currently Co-Chairs the Western Sydney Value Based Urgent Care Subcommittee.

Dr Khoo has been a solo GP in Ingleburn since 1990. He is the chair of the Education Working Group at the Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Translational Research Unit (DOMTRU), a member of the RACGP’s Specific Interest Groups in Diabetes and Obesity Management. He is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at WSU. He is also the editor in chief at GPVoice.com.au. He is on the steering committee of the National Hyperglycaemia in Pregnancy Clinical Quality Program and on the GP advisory board of T1D National Screening Program.
