Professor Robert Batey AM MD BSc (Med) FRACP FRCP (UK) FAChAM
Senior Staff Specialist, North Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service, Drug and Alcohol Services; Clinical Advisor to Mental Health & Drug & Alcohol Office, in Addiction Medicine, NSW Health. Dr Batey trained at Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and gained further experience at the Royal Free Hospital London working for 2.5 years with Professor Sheila Sherlock. His career has covered the fields of Hepatology and Addiction Medicine for 28 years with roles at Westmead and John Hunter Hospitals and at UNSW.
He chairs the National Hepatitis C Working party of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on AIDS, sexual health and hepatitis and is currently a member of the NHMRC Working Party on the revision of the Australian Alcohol Guidelines.
He has research interests in Hepatitis C, the use of alternative medicines in the treatment of liver disease and nutrition in liver disease.
