Dr Stephen Jurd MB BS FRANZCP FAChAM
Director of Postgraduate Training in Psychiatry, Northern Sydney Central Coast Health; Clinical Associate Professor, Discipline of Psychological Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney.
Dr Jurd graduated from the University of Sydney in 1978 and trained in psychiatry at Macquarie Hospital. He has worked at Royal North Shore Hospital’s Drug and Alcohol Service since 1984, commencing the Drug and Alcohol Consultation-Liaison Service. He was Area Medical Director of Northern Sydney Health’s Drug and Alcohol Services from 2001 to 2006. He initiated Phoenix Unit at Manly in 1992 and was its Director till 2006. Within the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, he was Chairman of the Section on Alcohol and Other Drugs from 1994 to 2000 and is currently chair of the subcommittee for advanced training in addiction psychiatry and deputy chair of the Committee for Training. He was involved in the establishment of the Chapter of Addiction Medicine within the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He is a regular media commentator on addiction issues. He does much teaching and lecturing, has published 20 scientific papers and has presented at national and international meetings.
