Dr Megan Keaney
Head of Claims (NSW, ACT, SA, WA, NT) for Avant Mutual Group Limited. Dr Keaney graduated from Sydney University in 1981 and worked in clinical practice until 1990 when she joined the then NSW Medical Defence which, following a series of industry mergers in the late 1990s, became United Medical Protection and more recently in 2007 United Medical Protection merged with the Medical Defence Association of Victoria to become Avant Mutual Group Limited.
In her current role she is responsible for managing a Claims team of 25 and retains direct responsibility for managing a portfolio of high value and complex claims.
She has been involved in the management of many of Australia’s notable medical cases and is asked to address doctors on risk management, claims management and medical indemnity issues on a regular basis.
Until 2005, Dr Keaney worked part-time in the Emergency Department at RNSH and from time to time works in the Emergency Department at Alice Springs Hospital.
She is Chairman of the National Breast Cancer Centre & a member of the Advisory Council of Cancer Australia.
