Associate Professor Ian Charlton MD MBBS MRCGP
Ian first developed his interest in asthma while a GP trainee in Aylsham in Norfolk, England. Research into nurse-run asthma clinics, colour coded peak flow meters and asthma self-management plans subsequently led to the award of his MD at the University of NSW in 1999. On returning to Australia in 1992 he helped establish the general practice asthma group which subsequently became a committee of the National Asthma Council He was their founding Chairman.
Ian has served on a number of government committees advising on asthma management and has contributed to the national asthma management handbook. Most recently he was on the committee helping to devise the guidelines for allergic rhinitis.
In his spare time he surfs the point at Avoca & is a drummer for the Rhythm method, a band that is available for baptisms, weddings, barmitsvas and people like ourselves, who like to dance all night
