    Identifying Connective Tissue Disorders
    Marfan’s syndrome is a systemic disorder of connective tissue, with a wide range of presentations involving the eye, skeletal, and cardiovascular systems. Improved awareness and early diagnosis, along with advances in medical management and surgical techniques mean that the life expectancy of someone with Marfan’s syndrome is now similar to the general population. This session will assist GPs in the early diagnosis and optimal management of Marfan’s to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.

    Management of Medical Abortion
    Medical abortion is slowly replacing surgical abortion in early pregnancy worldwide – the rate in Australia is currently 25%, increasing by more than 5% annually. This presentation will include an overview of abortion law in Victoria, drug regimens, side effects and contraindications and determining when surgical intervention is necessary. Assessment of outcome indicators and initiation of contraception will also be discussed.

This session will aim to assist GPs in understanding the new requirements, answering the many questions that often arise.

    Testosterone prescribing and the PBS: what does a GP need to know?
    In response to a recent steep rise in testosterone prescribing for older men, PBS criteria for subsidy changed in 2015, leading to confusion for GPs and patients. This session will discuss indications for testosterone treatment, the new PBS criteria and the role of the GP in managing testosterone replacement.

    Spotting The Sick Child
    Children are general practice regulars, and GPs are adept at managing the usual childhood ailments. Spotting the warning signs of acute, life-threatening conditions can be more difficult, but if missed, can be catastrophic. This session provides a basic introduction to the assessment of conscious state, skin condition, pulse, respiration and other signs that GPs must be alerts to in their paediatric patients.
