Professor Trisha Dunning AM RN Med PhD CDE FRCNA
Current positions are Professor/Director Endocrinology & Diabetes Nursing Research, St Vincent's Health and The University of Melbourne; and Clinical Nurse Consultant, Diabetes Education, St Vincent’s Health Melbourne.Trisha is committed to lifelong learning and continuing professional development, having completed a Graduate Diploma of Health Education, a Master of Education and a PhD. She extends her learning beyond her nursing and has qualifications in professional writing and editing and aromatherapy. Despite her academic focus she has always maintained a strong clinical focus. She conducts, collaborates in, teaches and uses research findings in her clinical practice. Her main research focus has been on understanding how beliefs and attitudes impact on a patient’s self-care and more recently on nurse practitioner issues. She has over 30 peer-reviewed publications and is a member of editorial review panels and editorial boards of a number of diabetes journals. She is also widely published in lay literature. She writes a regular column responding to readers’ letters in Diabetes Conquest, a magazine published by Diabetes Australia and the second edition of her book Nursing Management of People with Diabetes was published in March this year.
