Dr Garry Egger MPh PhD MAPS
Dr Egger is one of Australia’s best known health educators and author of 26 books, over 70 scientific articles and numerous popular media articles on health and fitness. He spent 10 years as a Research Scientist in the NSW Health Department before becoming the principal of Australia’s first health promotion consultancy in Sydney. In this capacity he was instrumental in setting up the Australian Fitness Accreditation Council and Fitness Leader training program in Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia and acted as a health promotion consultant to Government and Industry in Australia and Asia. Dr Egger is currently also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at Deakin University, and has adjunct Professorships at Newcastle and Southern Cross University. In 1991, he established the GutBuster program, the first ‘waist loss’ program of its type, in conjunction with the NSW Health Department’s Hunter Region in Newcastle. As part of the program, a best selling book, GutBuster Waist Loss Guide for Men, was written by Dr Egger with nutritionist Rosemary Stanton. This was modified to become Professor Trim’s Medically Supervised Weight Loss Programs for men in 2005. Dr Egger is a consultant in obesity for WHO, appears regularly on the media, runs training programs for doctors around Australia and Asia and presents on health at corporate functions.
