Dr Gabriele Medley AM MBBS FRCPA FIACGabriele was born in Germany and has been in Australia since early childhood. She graduated MBBS at Melbourne University in 1959 and after three years residence at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, returned there to train in anatomical pathology (the first part-time trainee of the RCPA.) Appointed at Prince Henry’s Hospital as Deputy Director Anatomical Pathology and Victorian Cytology Service in 1976, she was Director of VCS from 1988 to 2000, and Emeritus Director till 2003. After two years at Dorevitch Pathology, she joined Melbourne Pathology in December 2005, and continues to be employed full time as a gynaecological cyto/histopathologist. After many years working in the area of cervical screening in Australia and for the past five years as a consultant to the New Zealand Cervical Screening Program, Gabriele developed an interest in anal cytology in early 1980s and for the past 5 years has also been reporting anal cytology for research studies with National Centre for HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research. |
