Dr Cate Howell CSM Churchill Fellow BMBS BAppSc(OT) FRACGP FACPM Dip Clin Hyp Dip HSM
Cate originally trained as an Occupational Therapist before doing medicine at Flinders University. She has worked in general practice for 13 years and has always had a strong interest in mental health. She was awarded a Year 2000 Churchill Fellowship to study the management of anxiety and depression in primary care. Upon returning, Cate decided to undertake a doctorate on preventing depression relapse. The PhD clinical study is completed and the thesis will be finished in 2006. Cate is now Director of the Primary Care Mental Health Unit in the Discipline of General Practice and was recently appointed to a Senior Lecturer position. She coordinates the South Australian Mental Health Education Initiative and is involved in teaching mental health and facilitator skills across Australia and overseas. Cate has presented talks, workshops and posters at a number of conferences on a range of mental health and general practice research topics.
