The Future of Primary Health Care and General Practice- Panel and Debate

“We are on the verge of some of the most wide-ranging reforms to the health
system since the introduction of Medicare 25 years ago.” – The Health Minister, when discussing the proposed Health Reforms.
The government has received reports from three expert groups in 2009 on the future of health care in Australia. These have recommended some significant changes to general practice and other primary health care services based in the community. The national and state governments are meeting to make some decisions about the future.
Come along to hear from experts on some of changes that will affect general practice and discuss where things will go in the future. What could this mean for you? What does the future hold for your practice? Join the debate and give your input on the issues.
PAY FOR PERFORMANCE: What is it? How does it work? What indicators of quality care will be used? What data will be needed?
NURSE PRACTITIONERS: How will collaborative care really work? Will they fragment your care?
“VOLUNTARY” PATIENT REGISTRATION: Will this provide better access to allied health care? Will it be accepted by patients? Will it put more responsibility on the GP?
SUPER CLINICS: reforms suggest an extra 200 clinics - Will these “one stop shop” put you out of business or provide better care for you patients? How big will they be?
PRIMARY HEALTH CARE ORGANISATION? Will these provide or fund allied health services? Who will run them? What will they be accountable for?
COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES? How will these by run under the Commonwealth? How will they work with private allied health services? How easy will it be to refer to them?
PATIENT HELD ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS? How will this work?
Will patients have access to their own records? Will it duplicate GP records? MEDICARE SCHEDULE AND AUTHORITY SYSTEM:- Should this be reviewed and re-vamped?
GP’S HAVE SOME INPUT INTO MATTERS THAT WILL AFFECT THE DELIVERY OF QUALITY PATIENT CARE.
