Cardiovascular outcome studies with oral anti-diabetics - with reference to the record study
Cardiovascular outcomes were assessed after addition of rosiglitazone to either metformin or sulfonylurea compared with the combination of the two over 5-7 years of follow-up. Comparative safety was also assessed. The primary end point was cardiovascular hospitalisation or cardiovascular death.
This seminar will review the key Cardiovascular clinical data from the UKPDS, ACCORD BARi2D and the RECORD studies.
The RECORD study is a multicentre, open label trial with 4447 type 2 diabetes patients, it is the only long term study specifically designed to investigate the cardiovascular safety of Rosiglitazone vs active control.
