This ALM looks at some of the emergency procedures and emergency presentations that are commonly experienced in general practice. These include coronary and orthopaedic emergencies & traumatic injury presentations. Interactive workshops will demonstrate skills that GPs can practice and develop to enhance their procedural skills. Rural doctors are exposed to emergency situations and the workshops and seminars will also specifically address treating the patient in remote locations. Emergency management and triage skills will also be addressed in relation to the GP practice and the less usual but increasingly common disaster event.
This module also includes CPR training, which is a mandatory requirement of the RACGP for the 2011-2013 triennium.
This ALM constitutes 6hours of education – 4 of which are interactive either with case presentations, role plays, discussions or practical skills. Each activity makes provision for a Q&A session which the facilitator helps coordinate. Delegates must include 4 of the interactive workshop activities, that is two thirds of the ALM, to qualify for this ALM. The remaining 2 hours may be chosen from the seminars or other interactive workshops
