This ALM will look at practice management with the aim of assisting practices to run more efficiently and effectively and to also assist in risk management strategies leading to better practice outcomes. We also look at communication aspects in the workshops, time management and staffing issues.
Computer utilisation and techniques including e-Health, electronic records and the services of a practice nurse to help better manage practice management issues and assist in enhancing patient safety outcomes to assist with recalls and follow-up.
Appropriate practice management is essential for the smooth and efficient running of general practice. By continuing to update knowledge on appropriate management of different situations and communication skills excellent practice management will allow more time to apply strategies for a patient centred approach to various problems. Appropriate use of computers and the resources will allow better prevention guidelines and screening processes to be put into practice to achieve better patient outcomes.
This ALM constitutes 6hours of education – 4 of which are interactive either with case presentations, role plays, discussions or practical skills. Each activity makes provision for a Q&A session which the facilitator helps coordinate. Delegates must include 4 of the interactive workshop activities, that is two thirds of the ALM, to qualify for this ALM. The remaining 2 hours may be chosen from the seminars or other interactive workshops.

- Enhance time management to assist in keeping better progress notes and instituting care plans leading to improved patient outcomes.
- To become more proficient and efficient when using the computer.
- To improve financial management and/or a work-life balance.
- Patient Safety - To ensure appropriate practice management procedures and keeping of electronic health records to ensure a recall systems for patients for results and continued follow-up.
