Anti-nuclear autoantibodies (ANAs) are useful diagnostic markers for systemic autoimmune diseases. These diseases include systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), scleroderma, polymyositis/dermatomyositis, mixed connective tissue disease and the exocrine endocrinopathy of Sjogren’s syndrome.
What tests should be ordered by the GP to help arrive at a more accurate diagnosis? This workshop will help the GP work through the interpretation and significance of various tests (in conjunction with the clinical symptoms) such as patterns-speckled vs homogeneous, nucleous and centromere and titres - their significance. When does one worry, what can be regarded as “normal”? When does one order follow on tests such as ENA Antibodies etc? What is the significance of positive ENA’s to Anti SSA(Ro60), Anti SSA(Ro52), SSB, etc?
