Opioids - the rational use in chronic pain

At the completion of this case scenario discussion, participating general practitioners will be able to:

  • Outline the benefits and the multi-modal components of a pain management plan for a patient with chronic non-cancer pain
  • Understand the need to initiate an opioid on a trial basis to establish efficacy and benefit, in patients deemed suitable for opioid therapy
  • Gain information about the best practice use of the various opioid preparations available
  • Plan for options to deal with break through pain
