Don't be in the dark about the power of mushrooms
With a five-fold increase in consumption since 1980, mushrooms are now the third highest selling fresh produce supermarket item. An explosion in published scientific research in the last decade shows how mushrooms can improve human health because they have attributes not found in fruits or vegetables. That's right, they reside in their own biological kingdom.
The CSIRO publishes a biennial report on mushrooms influence on health. The last report stated: “Cultivated mushrooms are a low-energy, nutrient-dense food that is nutritionally valuable in the human diet. The majority of positive health effects reported from mushroom consumption appear to be directly related to stimulatory effects of natural immunity.”
